makes no since i got a great studio mic, and was using a Tube preamp thru laptop to record vocals, terrible static/quality. i just got me a M-Audio Interface fast track pro and there is absolutly no difference in the quality, the static may even be worse with the interface
dump ATT !! phone service/8.95$ month better than Magic! & keep your old phone number/8.95$/ month

This is going to be hard to diagnose without a bit more information.
I would say, first…check and make sure you are using the latest version of the ASIO driver for your interface.
Next, set your input buffer setting to something conservative, like 10ms, and see if that helps. You can start lowering that until you find the sweet spot.
If that fails…make sure it’s not the mic. Either borrow another mic and try it with your rig, or bring your mic to someone else’s setup that you know works and try it out.
Other than that, you may try to find out if the chipset in your computer is incompatible with the interface, I have seen that in the past. Be sure to post this question on the M-Audio forum, and the recordingquestions .com site.
