A fine working vintage Marantz model 4240 stereo/quadradial receiver plays test-input signals from CD. Manufactured 1974-1978, it delivers 40 W RMS per channel at 8 ohms, still providing deeper and fatter sound than today’s consumer hardware with equal wattage. Not to mention the rich choice of interfaces on its back, you can choose from. You can see this in another video, “Marantz 4270″, which deals of a similar type of Marantz receiver — but with some more power output….

That looks exactly like my Marantz 2270, except mine is only stereo and 2x70W. I love it. The sound is so beautiful, I never even thought of replacing it with a modern amplifier.

You’re right, vintage analogue is the purest sound you will get, especially from a 180 gram vinyl record. Vintage Marantz and Pink Floyd, beautiful combination!

Go test-hear any today’s 40 W amplifier. As for a noticeable differently felt audio experience,
the old 4240 will sound better and fuller – by factor 130%.

The 4240 provides 40 W RMS per Channel into 8 Ohms. 60 W RMS speakers should work well.

I think they gave more truthful power ratings back then.
Instead of rating with one channel driven at 1 khz (a midrange frequency that any old amp can drive easily) they rated the output at continuous power from 20 Hz (lowest bass human ear can hear) to 20kHZ (highest treble human ear can hear)
with all four channels being driven simultaneously.
They used RMS over peak rating, like Harman Kardon, Denon, and Marantz do today.

I want one! I never saw a Marantz up close but I have seen soundesgn Low watt stuff but clean soundibg i have 2 Soundesign receivers with matching speakers/accesories. I love vintage stereo’s Now If i could get better speakers….
