1. If you connect you PS3 by the Sony supplied cable. That's analog and only capable of normal Dolby Digital/DTS. Optical/Coaxial same thing.

2. If you connect your PS via HDMI then you have to set it PS3 audio setting to PCM, since PS3 will decode the audio and send the signal via LPCM. However your Yamaha will display PCM not DD-TrueHD/DTS-MA.

3. On that note, PS3 does not do Bitstream "HD" sound signals so your Yamaha will not show the DD-TrueHD/DTS-MA. Since PS3 already decode the signal.

Between PCM from PS3 and Bitstream to send to "capable" receiver; and I'm only talking about HD audio. The audio quality is pretty much the same unless for the real nitpick audiophiles. Personally I use PCM in PS3.

you will only be able to use this fearue if you are using either HDMI or optical cable. You need to transmit digital signal. Composite and component is analog.

to saajan, don't answer if you know nothing.. you should not even join the yahoo answers if you dont' know anything... all you ever say is "I don't know".... what the heck...

I assume you are connecting the PS3 via its originally supplied composite white and red audio cable outputs (neglecting the yellow video cable). Check the settings > audio in PS3 and configure it. Or it might be that the dual audio outputs from the PS3 is just recognized as stereo by your Yamaha.
