Seth asked:
If you can’t only use HDMI cable, is there another way to pluy the PS3 to a Marantz 4001 receiver using HD connection (component, HDMI, optical…)? I plugged my PS3 into the HDMI in on the receiver but it seems to only be sending sound through and no video any assistance on how I can get this hooked up would be appreciated. Thanks.

I assume your AV receiver has HDMI inputs, so here is how it should be hooked up. You should have an HDMI cable going from the PS3 to the AV Receiver (Marantz 4001). You should then have an HDMI cable going from the AV Receiver to the TV. This is how you get video. If you don’t have an HDMI cable going from the AV Receiver to the TV, then you will not get video, only sound.
If you don’t have an HDMI Input on your TV, then you can use the Composite Cables that came with the PS3. You will use the HDMI cable for sound, and you will use the Composite Cables (yellow cable only) for Video. You will have to turn the TV on the correct Video Source (the Video Source the yellow cable is plugged into), and you will have to set the PS3 up as two different cables.
You can do it manually:
Video - XMB > Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > Composite / S Video
Audio - XMB > Settings > Sound Settings > Audio Output Settings > HDMI
You should be able to do a Video Reset as well, which will give you the best video possible for the TV and cable being used. How to do a Video Reset:
With the PS3 in stand by mode (red light on front of the PS3), hold the power button down until you hear two beeps (about 5 seconds). The PS3 will turn on and automatically give you the best settings for the type of TV and cable being used.
