McIntosh MC 2105 Amplifier

A nice old McIntosh amplifier. Huge amounts of power that can drive most speakers. The sound is expansive, crystal clear, and has very controlled bass. A great amp for more than 30 years old.

Ohh god… that amp deserves better music.

Denon isn’t bad, but NAD is a bit better. Denon was marketed by name, its still good, but it’s name outweighs its distinction, much like Mark Levinson. It’s good, but not that good.

Pass Labs is quite good. Take a look at Jeff Roland, Perreaux, Conrad-Johnson, McCormack and Plinius, which are all very high end stuff with looks and a big sticker price, but exquisitely clean sound and striking power.

Krell has nice looking units but I think they are just WAY over priced, I believe Pass Labs is more in the affordable range & have high reviews as well as Music Fidelity.

,,thanks for the info, the truth be known, I’ve never had the pleasure to audition those super high dollar goodies because a lack of good retailers around me & 150 miles from any good dealers, however I do own NAD & I can attest it sounds so good, vivid compared to my old Yamaha, Denon stuff I use to own.

Incidentally, you might want to check with Krell directly before purchasing any equipment from them, they just had a recall of their line of 4 of their finest series of amplifiers, the KAV models 250Aa 250a3, 500i and1500
Hi-Quality? LOL!

And Balanced Audio, meh. It’s the difference between a 1959 Les Paul and a PRS, we have both. No comparison.

Yeah, they’re nice, but they don’t deliver. It’s funny how you name Krell, sold one on Ebay a few years ago, sounds like crap compared to the Mc. Nothing compares. You’re attempting to compare a Bosendorfer Concert Grand Piano to a Kurzweil Electronic 88 key keyboard. The Kurzweil is very clean, but has no real punch. Taste is unique. Some people like Fillet rare, others prefer New York Strip medium well. We go our separate ways.

,,what about “Balanced Audio”, or “Krell” or the other $20,000 dollar amps ?,,lol

mygif
mccainisthrough said in October 21st, 2009 at 9:55 am

Yes, but only on their receivers. Their stand alone amplifiers require a preamp to adjust tone and balance etc.

mccainisthrough said in October 21st, 2009 at 10:36 am

LOL! If you go to Ebay you can buy one in good condition for about $1,300 with shipping, the best amplifiers in the world, bar none.

How much do you want for that old piece of ****? I’ll take it off your hands.

I remember very well a high end stereo dealer that had Bozak Concert Grands built in the wall. There were 8 12 ” woofers. They played all music very well, but what I remember most was the Wurlitzer pipe organ that pulsated the floors and walls . It sounded like you were in a cathedral.

I love classic McIntosh gear. Their 30 year old amps are some of the best sounding solid sate gear from that era.

What class of amp is this? Class AB, Class D???

mygif
lrh1966 said in October 28th, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Great solid state Mac amp from the 1967-68 era, rated at 105 watts rms/channel into 8 ohms with no more than 0.2% T.H.D. if I remember the specs right?, it has been many years since I looked at the specs, all in all a great conservatively rated amp!!…Lloyd.

Il est très beau et musical le Mcintosh Mc 2105 a un look indémodable avec ces yeux bleus et sa face en verre une qualité très proche des amplis a tubes .

I hope you have not put your McIntosh on top of a working speaker. If you have, you should remove it from there or you will create a dry-solder park very soon.

Okay I feel dumb. We had both Rotel RMB 100 and Parasound HCA-1201a. It was the Parasound. Either way they are both nice :D

Makes me miss the mcintosh we had. It was my dad’s but we had it (preamp) with some Heil ESS and parasound mono blocks. :( I miss that - nothing he did sounded as good as that setup.
