Many reel to reel fans insist that these machines sound better than anything else on earth. In my opinion, these machines make good copies of whatever source you feed them. If you start with a good vinyl record, you will get a tape copy that sounds nearly identical to the original vinyl. But it can't magically recreate anything that is missing from the original source. It does tend to add little boost to the bass, though, so that might help if the original lacks bass. Depends who you ask.
