I mean, my 3090 cost about 3500$ back then and still sounds pretty great. Well granted, it doesn’t even have DTS but I heard that if you have really good speakers there is not so much difference between a good 5.1 and DTS recording. FYI: I have very, very expensive speakers. I would just change the amplifier. I think it’s time you know. I have this product for ten years now and I guess you get a really good A/V Amplifier or Receiver for only like 1500$ now. But as I said, if the 5.1 recording on the DVD is good the sound is still extremly good, so what I really wanna ask: Has so much changed in the last 8 years, soundwise, that justifies me spending like 1500$ on a new amplifier?. Now to the 2nd part of the question. At the moment, what what you rather spend your money on: A really good amplifier or a new Plasma Screen or something like that because I only have a 32 inch TV?
Some suggestions please!

I would recommend getting a new plasma instead. The increase in picture quality from a HDTV plasma from a 32 inch TV is a lot more noticeable than DTS is over regular 5.1 encoding.
I have a new receiver that plays DTS and regular encoding. Switching between the two, the difference isn’t that big. Your Yamaha DSP A-3090 is more than adequate.
They come out with new standards just so that people continue to buy new equipment. If you are happy with your sound now, you’re not missing $1500 back in sound improvement from paying for a new receiver with DTS.
