Why is it that a lot of these Hi FI shows have B&W mated with Krell or Classe even though they are in bed with Rotel? I have had 4 Classe pre amps die on me within 4 years and I have a Krell cd transport that fails to outperform my Japanese teardrop from Consonance. If it’s all about “pure sound” and tweaky terminology why don’t they use FM or Theta?
they look “ugly” for a reason: its about sound quality. they have untraditional 360deg cones, without a cabinet.
a set of such high quality speakers shouldn’t need a subwoofer. yet another crossover, yet another cone that has to integrate, it’ll just sound worse.
MBL’s speakers are ugly as ****. I wouldn’t even give them a chance. Same thing with the Thiels in this video (they look like ugly ass).

Thats some nice audio, but my favorite is still Wilson Audio Alexandria X-2’s thats some sweet and super expensive sound.

If you shop carefully you can get very nice sound for $10,000us.
Don’t forget the point of diminishing returns sets in where you have to spend huge amounts for small increase in sound quality.
And shop demo models can get good prices.
Also some speaker manufacturers do high end kits to save thousands! just assemble yourself!
Have seen some good specs on amplifier kits also!
There are options to get high end sound with reasonable budget.
Second hand krell amps etc!

who’s music is that? i like it…
indeed they would expand their market by changing the design to a better look, but i think that every aspect of the design is meant for tuning to optimum sound quality, and every change for prettier looks will ruin the sound. Bang&Olufsen has some gorgeous looking speakers but true audiophiles never buy B&O.
