yes you would play lower frequencies accustomed to hearing from subwoofers but the magnet and driver are not made to hit that low and will end up melting the leads or frying the voice coil.

In theory any speaker can be made to run at a lower frequency if given the right signal (the limiting factor being the size of the coil and magnet apparatus). If you indeed removed the crossovers and replaced them with subwoofer crossovers (assuming the power ratings are the same) you would be able to reproduce frequencies down to about 35hz... decent for a subwoofer.

i had 64 chevy with 8 unpowered bazooka 12's dynomat the chit out of the inside of your trunk and position them 3 inches away from fender of car "front facing side of car" make sure sound is not hitting carpet! take a 15x15 piece of plywood or whatever you want to use and make it to where the actual speaker hits that wood. remember exactly 3 inches!!! bazookas run off bass reflectivity it is not just a fancy box for a speaker.www.myspace.com/jimmycody

You could put any 8" woofer in there. If you want the JBL I guarantee you could get the same one cheaper at a local car audio shop instead of the dealer

Not really gonna matter because it is base. The closer (but not touching) the output is to a seat back or truck wall the more base.
Highly recommend putting sound blanket material on inside or trunk to keep the base in and the rattles to a minimum.
