In Addition to tube screamer a compression or compression/limiter pedal can make your guitar more sensitive to changing attack with pick,.

The only way you're going to get dynamics at all is to get rid of that Marshall. You can pile band-aids on top of it in the form of tube drivers and effects and eq's and nothing will solve this problem.

TO get dynamics, you have to start with something that has no good distortion - like an old Fender Twin Reverb or Super Reverb. THEN go get a BK Butler Tube driver for your distortion and you will have the tone, the dynamics and the distortion all at your control.

Good Luck!

Ibanez Tube Screamers...it's the only way to go. These pedals are solid state...they don't have tubes.

Even the cheap, inexpensive ones sound great, and that's according to Guitar Player magazine.

I have a TS-9 myself, which I love, and I only purchased that because my cheapo $35 tube screamer( which I had for years upon years) just wasn't as reliable onstage anymore.

Dial up a good clean tone on your Marshall Amp, then stomp on the TS-9 to add any level, or variety of grit...to make your solos stand out, or your rhythm parts more dynamic and in your face.

I've been playing for over 40 years...these are dynamite pedals...but don't take my word...research any brand of Ibanez Tube Screamer, and read the raves for yourself.

As far as dynamics..any old player will tell you it's gotta start with your fingers...a pedal will not do it for you.

     Best of luck

You can definitely get decent overdrive pedals that will offer that sensitivity of attack your after, pretty pricey for one that's any good though.
most of the good ones have tubes built in and they are around $600, i don't think you will find one you like that doesn't have tubes.
If your pick ups are crap then its a waste of money. most of the time I just roll back the volume on my pick ups and play with different levels attack to get that sound, it also helps if your using humbuckers.
